I encourage all piano students to create and compose their own music if this is something they are interested to do.
Composing music provides a great opportunity for students to study how the different building blocks of music fit together and students learn the basics of musical form and structure by extending their own compositional abilities.
Students who compose their own music also have an added incentive to learn musical theory to a higher level.
The below piece of music was composed by a 9 year old student of mine called Julia.
She decided to name her composition "Julia's Composition".
